The Power of CBDA: Why You Want It

Have you heard of CBDA? We now know that as well as cannabinoids, cannabis contains many other beneficial substances including polyunsaturated fatty acids, proteins and terpenes. However, it is cannabinoids which have grabbed the most attention from the public due to their healing properties and importance to our Endocannabinoid System.

The two cannabinoids that are getting the most attention are THC and CBD. We know THC, provides the high associated with marijuana, and CBD and it’s potential health benefits. But what about the lesser known Phyto cannabinoid like Cannabidiolic acid (CBDA).

CBDA is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and the acidic precursor to CBD. CBDA can be found in abundance in the live or raw form of cannabis. CBDA converts to CBD through decarboxylation which occurs when cannabis is exposed to heat and time. This also means that CBDA is fragile in the human body as it breaks down with the heat in our bodies making it CBD.

CBDA isn’t known to bind directly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) but rather inhibits the COX-2 enzyme. This gives CBDA the potential to reduce of inflammatory activity and pain throughout the body in a unique way from CBD itself.  As many know, NSAIDS and highly addictive prescription pain killers attach to the COX-2 enzyme.

There is also early research that CBDA enhances the serotonin production which could provide relief to those suffering vomiting and nausea, and prolonged deep sadness.
